ataraxia?

duet for two pianos (4’30”)

Ataraxia is a Greek term used to describe undisturbed serenity.  With its steady, peaceful harmonies and contrasting rhythms, this piece is designed to give a false feeling of tranquility.  The Piano 1 part is written in a 4/4 time signature at 100 BPM.  The Piano 2 part is written in 5/4 at 125 BPM.  While both parts sound serene individually, together they create a small sense of agitation.
