vibraphone, temple bowls, chopsticks, tuned metal pipes, tone chimes

“empty, wanting” sets out to create the soundscape of a place that is oddly devoid of people. This place could be an abandoned schoolyard, a public pool at night, or a mall in its last few days of business. Through the use of metallic instruments, a ringing, reverberant, and otherworldly texture is created. The piece begins eerily with a slightly uncomfortable ostinato. This ostinato is repeated throughout, but is later reharmonized to give a sense of unexpected nostalgia. Even though these liminal spaces may feel off putting, they contain the countless memories made by the people that occupied them at some point in time.

In this piece, Texter experiments with the use of rhythmic swinging written for the tone chimes. It creates an innovative, eerie warble effect.
